General Luna, Siargao - Living the Simple Life

August 24, 2011

General Luna is Siargao’s main town typically flocked by tourists especially come surfing season (September to March). If you’re facing the sea, Cloud Nine is located at the left side of General Luna which is only one habal-habal ride away. If you’re tired of surfing or if ever you get bored checking out surfers showing off their hot bods while braving the tubes and huge waves, you can head to the right side of General Luna, rent a boat and go island hopping to Bucas Grande’s numerous white islands and islets. Otherwise, you can explore the simple life that locals live here day in and day out.

General Luna exudes such a quaint charm as if I was back in my childhood, climbing trees and playing in the sea. It has that early 1980’s vibe when cities weren’t as civilized yet. The public market is small which displays  fishermen’s fresh catch early in the morning; there are convenience stores selling rice and other simple food items and commodities; the municipal hospital is just across the street and beside it is the local police station.

By the bay is a small park which leads to a bridge they call the Boardwalk. Life is very simple here. Don’t get me wrong though because at night, instead of hearing crickets and frogs as I would’ve expected, loud sounds were blaring from the lighted main street. General Luna has numerous videoke slot machines stationed at the Boulevard. Here, both locals and  tourists alike drink cheap booze and nomnoms like burgers with eggs while singing the night away.

Don’t you want to try living there one day? I do. ^_^
