My Different Faces by Makeup Artist Net Bautista

June 16, 2011

It’s been seven long years since I’ve been in a real photoshoot (with a German photographer, Adam, may he rest in peace). Back then, I was still in my 20’s  and I was doing it purely for fun and experience. It was a semi-nude  and nude photoshoot. But not to fret  because my husband was there watching everything the whole time. Back then, I didn’t even think about having proper makeup done. I was going to be nude anyway so might as well not bother with getting a lot of stuff on my face.

My first semi-nude photoshoot in 2004

In 2009, when Peter and I did a photoshoot of our own inside our hotel room at Club Panoly in  Boracay, my face was in its rawest form. The photoshoot was for  the lingerie I was selling at that time and I didn’t even bother to dab some powder on my face (I probably should have though coz my face ended up looking like a shiny moon).  I dunno, you can say that I’m not such a big fan of makeup. I figured, if you know you’re beautiful and you’re confident enough go out with just the basic foundation, lipstick and blush on, then that’s good enough for me.

Well, one day, everything changed. I was told by one of my agents (I do acting bits when I can) to have a proper setcard. Then another agent asked me to send him new photos of mine. In the past, I have sent photos I already have, thinking that the more natural looking the photos are, the better.

But this one agent of mine told me that if I wanted to be taken seriously as a talent, I should really, really have professional makeup and photos done and sent to her. Hmmmm. Going to a professional makeup artist or even to a salon for that matter, then having my photos taken at a studio, just seem like a lot of hardwork. What’s worse,  I don’t really have the time nor the patience for them. But then again, if it’s for a good personal cause, then I might as well start opening  myself up to it. So I thought of a compromise…

I have a girlfriend who loves everything about makeup — NET BAUTISTA, an up and coming makeup artist, whose services I rented for one day so she can show me the way.  Net has been doing makeup for half a year now but she’s always been so passionate about it even as a child. I remember when we used to go shopping before,  I’d always catch her at the makeup section while I lose myself in the apparel department. There was also this one time we went to Subic where she ended up buying a lot of makeup. I didn’t understand her obsession with it but I admire her for it. Net Bautista  is  innately good with makeup and she compliments me when I sometimes get it done right on my face. She’s also who I look up to when it comes to mixing and matching of clothes coz her talent for choosing the right combinations  simply comes naturally.

So when she finally agreed to a date when we can have my makeup done, I was ecstatic and at the same time apprehensive! It’s a good thing that as a makeup artist, Net Bautista considers it her job to go to her client’s house when required and that’s one of the things I loved about this whole thing. You see, I don’t like going out of the house unless I’m going to the beach, or I’m off to windsurf, or I’m off to an exciting event or meeting. As much as I am a nomad, I prefer staying at home too and getting things done here at the comforts of our beautiful house. I’m eccentric that way I guess. Like what Mark Juan, my husband’s long time friend, told me when he first met me, “Jen, you’re such a walking contradiction.” and I think this example is just one aspect of that.

Anyway, I digress…

The day finally arrived and the first thing I noticed was her huge kit (more like a luggage)  full of colorful makeup and accessories! I already expected this. Having had my makeup done on TV soap opera and commercial sets before, I know makeup artists carry a lot of stuff. But this is my friend and for the first time, I was seeing her in a new and amazing light!  Net Bautista, a makeup artist!

That beautiful day, she not only showed me what a great makeup artist she is, but she also styled my hair in a way that I have never seen on my face before. She also styled my costumes and clothes. Net Bautista, a hair and makeup artist and a stylist as well!

It’s just so great seeing her in action that day. She was meticulous but kind. She made sure that I was comfortable the whole time. Her touch was so light that I sometimes didn’t even feel a thing. But the moment I looked at the mirror, I couldn’t believe that it’s my face I was seeing. I looked so beautiful yet different!

Net did several looks on my face — simple, bride, vixen or sexy, and avant-garde.

I will do separate posts on my fashion blog for each of the looks including the getup (casual, lingerie, furry, bridal). Right now, let me first show you my raw face right after a took a bath, after which, I’m showing you the looks she did on my face…

So what do you think? Don’t I look so different from my natural face? Net Bautista is really awesome! A part of me is inspired to take a makeup course too. The only difference is, Net Bautista loves to put makeup on all kinds of people, while I only like to put makeup on my face. Teehee. I guess that’s what it takes to be a true makeup artist. You have to love the science and art behind it, enough to make other people feel and look beautiful through your creation. Kudos to you my friend! Let’s do another makeup session soon… <3

Would you like to have your makeup done by Net Bautista? You may contact her at this number: 922.5590700. Tell her you found her on my blog and she might just give you a discount. Stay beautiful!  ^_^
