My Sister and I Dreamt We Were Avatars

December 21, 2009

LITTLE BLESSINGS

My sister arrived from Cebu yesterday (Sunday) morning. Right after we picked her up at NAIA Terminal 3, we immediately headed to Mall of Asia (MOA) to check out the screening schedule of Avatar. We heard so many good reviews about it and according to some, it’s best seen on 3D. It was just a little past 9 a.m. when we got there. We passed by IMAX and saw that the first screening was slated at 10:45 am. We had plenty of time to spare so we headed to McDonald’s first for some longganisa breakfast. By the time we were done, it was already 10:25 am and what awaited us was a very long line of people buying tickets for the 10:45 am screening. Oh my lord! I didn’t want to feel stressed about it so I kept my calm. I wanted to practice The Secret / The Law of Attraction more vigorously this time considering that I was such in a sad mood the last couple of weeks during and after my period. So, I just let it be. I thought if we don’t fit in the first screening, then we’ll do the second screening at 2:00 p.m. By 10:40 a.m., it was our turn with the cashier. Obviously, there weren’t many seats left. So we had no choice but to get the ones at row C which were very near the screen. Oh well. That’s that. At least we made it to the 10:45 a.m. screening. We ran towards the cinema entrance and handed our tickets when the ticket lady noticed that the tickets given to us were for the 2:00 p.m. slot. I was slowly losing my patience but I still kept my cool. Without much further thought, I ran back to the cashier and practically shouted (but with a nice tone)  “Kuya, pang 2:00 pm binigay mo. Sabi ko 10:45 a.m.!” (You gave me tickets for the 2 pm slot when  I wanted the one at 10:45 am.) Good thing he immediately apologized and replaced our tickets. We were so lucky coz there were exactly 3 seats left at row N, which meant, we got better seats than what were first given. Hurray! Thank you universe! I think I’m getting back on track to being aligned again. Teehee. Little blessings, they really do count.

“I SEE YOU.”

It was quite a walk from the cinema entrance to  our seats — N24,25,26. As soon as we got settled and wore our 3D glasses, the movie started. We were just in the nick of time. How awesome! And now, the movie part…. WOW!!! After 15 years in the making, James Cameron finally did it again!!! Avatar is so intense and powerful that I was totally sucked into another world. It totally succeeded in suspending my reality to the point that even in my sleep a while ago, I dreamt that I was an Avatar and I woke up so tired and lethargic from all the action sequences in my dream!  My sister had the same experience! Hahaha! How’s that for captivating an audience?! Anyway, while we were watching, my eyes, my heart, my ears were all glued to the screen. There was never a dull or dragging moment for me.  The whole time, I felt like being plugged to Jake Sully’s consciousness and experiencing everything he was experiencing for the first  time — with him being a cripple, then transfering his consciousness to his Avatar, being able to walk again, being attacked by those wild beasts and dogs, touching the colorful and stark beauty of Pandora’s wild life,  riding those flying monsters, caring for The  Na’vi People, falling in love with Neytiri, feeling hopeless, hopeful, avengeful, and victorious… all those things happening in the movie, they were like happening to me too. I guess that’s the magic of watching an action and wonder packed movie such as Avatar in 3D. It really heightened everything and brought the viewers’ senses to new heights of satisfaction and  pleasure. I think all of the actors portrayed their characters very well. My favorite was Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine. It’s been a while since I last saw her in a  film. In Avatar, she was able to develop and convey her character so well.  She was uncouth and boorish yet she was able to also show her sensitive and caring side.

Avatar is one movie that I will definitely buy in blue-ray disc copy. It teaches us all a great lesson that we are all connected. If we can only tap into that one energy that flows through all of us, the world, the universe for that matter, will be a much better and peacful place to live in.

SPEAKING OF BLUE-RAY

One splurge we made last Saturday was purchasing  blue-ray discs of Harry Potter 1-6. As soon as we got home, I tested everything on our DVD player and LCD screen. It was super-duper-mega-clear-to-the-nth power as if my hands can go through the screen! Because of this, I am planning to start collecting Blue-ray discs of my favorite movies. Next on my list are Michael Jackson videos, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Titanic, Spider Man movies, and Superman 1-4. ^_^ Oh, after buying my Harry Potter discs, we got 34 other DVD movies and TV series in clear DVD copy. Hehehe.
