My Globe Tattoo

November 5, 2009

I use my Globe Tattoo Broadband every now and then… when I’m mobile, sometimes even when I’m at home and my  wifi is not working properly,  in between running errands, stationed at a cafe and I need to check my email or go online for whatever reason (it could be for an assignment, to chat, to blog, to check my social networks, for a biz proposal, a possible client meeting, etc.).  I make sure first that my prepaid sim has load. After all, it costs P5.00 for 15 minutes of internet browsing. Even if I don’t reach 15 minutes, I’d still be charged P5.00 for one internet session so I make sure that I have my browsing plans laid out in front of me. I have this little post-it  where I jot down my browsing priorities. Here’s an example:

a.    Check email from the boss and reply.
b.    Browse for other important email. Don’t reply if not urgent or important (I can do that at home).
c.    Chat over YM or Facebook.
d.    Update Plurk and Twitter.
e.    Publish a blog post (if any).

By following my list, I become more efficient and productive thereby saving me both time and money.

My Globe Tattoo is this cute little USB stick that is used as a modem so that its users like me can access the internet anytime and anywhere. Speed would of course differ depending on the kind of signal my tattoo would connect to. So what I did when I first installed my Globe Tattoo Broadband was — I set it to search for 3G or WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access).  “It is the radio access scheme that is being rolled out in various parts of the world used for third generation cellular systems. The 3G systems to support wideband services like high-speed Internet access, video and high quality image transmission with the same quality as the fixed networks. In WCDMA systems, the CDMA air interface is combined with GSM based networks. The WCDMA standard was evolved through the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) which aims to ensure interoperability between different 3G networks.” In other words, this means that it can then practically connect anytime and anywhere since 3g only access can be found almost everywhere in the country. Yipee!

I’ve also set my browsing time to time-based charging rather than kb-based charging because it’s cheaper for me when I know I’m gonna be checking a lot of sites for at least 15 minutes. My blog  alone has very heavy pages due to tons of photos posted on it which would cost me more if I use the kb-based charging (15 centavos per KB). However, if it’s just emails that I’m checking for a few seconds or few minutes, then I use kb-based charging. To switch from time-based to per kb-based browsing, just text KB to 1111 using your Globe Tattoo SIM. To check your default browsing, text STATUS to 1111.

As you notice on the photo above, my Globe Tattoo doesn’t have any skin. Peter took it off when he first got it for me and I figured, until I find a skin that suits me then that’s the time I’ll go pick one out. I’m checking Globe Tattoo Broadband New Skins. They have tons of designs and I’m sure I’ll be able to choose one soon.

I also checked the Globe Tattoo Broadband Gallery and I found out that there’s a contest for making new skin designs. I already forwarded the link to my brother who’s good at these kinds of things. If you think you got talent at designing, why not join?! They’re giving away P5,000 for whoever will win. ^_^
