Indulge in the Uniquely Singapore experience
October 3, 2009It’s only on weekends and holidays that I get to indulge myself with certain luxuries in life… one of which is traveling! But lately, I have been working so hard to provide well for my family that I haven’t been giving myself the chance to just simply enjoy the things I love. As a travel, food and lifestyle blogger, I consider it imperative that I get to immerse myself in various cultures, cuisines, arts and sceneries from time to time. And Singapore is the perfect place to once again start in this indulgence of mine! Singapore is a melting pot of various heritage and cultures. It has a rich blend of people, religion, races, cuisine, arts and magnificent architecture! There is so much to learn from this country and so much to aspire for. Small as they are (it is the second smallest country in Asia), it managed to become known as the poster child of successful urban and economic development. Wow!
The last time my husband and I visited Singapore was in 2006 for a quick Valentine getaway. Because everything was jampacked in that short weekend, we didn’t get to see everything. If I can have another chance to explore Singapore once more, I’d visit places and do things I’ve never been to and done before. I wouldn’t want to miss visiting this beautiful country again.
So if this wish of mine does come true, there’s a whole day itinerary that I’d like to follow.
MORNING (8:00 - 11:30 AM):
I’d love to go to Sentosa once again to do two things:
1. Take lots of photos of their Underwater World simply because I wasn’t able to take any the last time we went there.
2. Walk barefoot on Palawan Island which I was also not able to do the last time I was there.
LUNCH (12:00 NN - 2:00 PM):
I want to dine al fresco at Quayside Seafood — Singapore’s first ever lilipad flooring with a stunning river view where you can literally dip your hands into the water! This fantastic restaurant is located in the heart of one of Singapore’s hottest dining and entertainment precincts, Clarke Quay, that one place I terribly missed when I visited Singapore in 2006. My husband and I missed it because we were both too tired to include it in our jampacked itinerary and we were also running low on funds then. Teehee. But this time, I will definitely have a budget especially for their crabs. They serve Singapore’s classic all-time favourites Chilli/Black pepper crabs using only ‘live’ juicy and succulent Sri Lankan crabs. Yum! I would love to get my hands on those!
AFTERNOON (3:00 PM - 5:00 PM):
Shopping at Orchard Road. Orchard Road is known for its numerous shops perfect for shopaholics. Though I’d love to visit all their malls, there are two particular shopping places I’d love to see to satisfy the shopaholic soul in me:

Pacific Plaza

Pacific Plaza houses some of Australia’s most popular clothing lines like Stussy, Mambo, Billabong and Quiksilver. Drop into The Vintage Place for some great bargains of used designer clothing - Gucci, Prada, Donna Karan, Dolce & Gabanna and many more. For unique home and soft furnishings, head to Lifestorey.

Palais Renaissance

This imposing complex is worth a visit whether to splurge on beautiful designer brands, or if only to admire the splendid interior. It houses a superb range of prestigious designer boutiques including DKNY, Gianni Versace, Prada, The Link and Jim Thompson.
EVENING (6:00 PM onwards):
Singapore is currently celebrating their Mid Autumn Festival. As such, there are numerous festivities lined up this month! I am hoping to catch DEEPAVALI, the Festival of Lights! It will all happen in Little India (one of my most favorite places in Singapore) where every corner will be decorated with colorful and mesmerizing lights! This occasion depicts the triumph of goodness over evil and is touted to be the most important festival in the Hindu calendar. It’s a month long celebration that started last Sept. 18 and will end on October 25. During this time, devotees thank their gods for all the blessings they have recieved, both tangible and intangible. I’d like to be there in the hopes of offering my own little thank you prayer. 2009 has been such a blessing in spite of the calamities that have recently devastated our country and looking at the more positive side of things, I’d like to offer a prayer of gratitude too. And of course, check out their bazaars, food stalls, do some more shopping and mingle with the people too. ^_^
Gosh, writing about these things is making my heart beat so fast! I am definitely getting excited! Oh please, please let me go! I can’t wait to Indulge in the Uniquely Singapore experience!!!
