Seven Years!
June 15, 2009Marriage is one of life’s greatest sacraments (in the Catholic Church at least). It is something that should not to be taken lightly as it can dictate your life’s happiness or misery. This is why our parents used to tell us to choose wisely. Even in countries where divorce happens left and right, marriage can still contribute a lot to people’s well being. There was a study conducted before that married people tend to be happier and get depressed less than single ones. Anyway, the journey does not end when a couple takes the vow of marriage. On the contrary, it is the start of something wonderful and great, depending on how the couple will live their lives as husband and wife. For Peter and I, it is such a blessing to have been great friends first back in college before he even courted me. I remember that time 10 years ago when he first told me how he felt about me. I totally laughed at his face. Little did I know that laughter will be such a huge part of our relationship. There’s no one else I know who can make me laugh so hard to the point of crying and rolling on the bed as well as he does. And I totally fall in love with him all over again every time he does that. Though he had been the most terrible of my boyfriends (for no one else broke my heart the hardest than he did), thank God he turned out to be the best of husbands (not that I had a lot of husbands to compare him with but based on stories I hear from my colleagues, acquaintances & friends, Peter is really one of a kind. They even want to marry him in their next life!). We still have our difficult moments from time to time (who doesn’t?) but I’m happy to say that we’ve mostly been happy and content. Reaching the 7th year of our married life, though not a breeze, has been expected. We, after all, know that we will be spending the rest of our years together until the day we die. With this as one of our ultimate goals (next to still being able to make love at the age of 60, 70, 80, and even 90…), being a spouse to one another has been a lot easier. There’s giving and taking, there’s forgiveness and understanding, there’s kindness and generosity. And when all else fails, there’s always our God in our midst (not the Catholic kind of God, but the God we believe in).
During the long weekend that passed, we tried to celebrate this special occasion. We had dinner at Azul in SM MOA last Thursday and had the most delicious kare-kare and yummy turon I’ve ever tasted.
