On those moments when I mix house chores with personal pleasure, I get to watch some DVD movies I like. This way, I get to finish the laundry, fold the washed and dried clothes, make plans, check my mails, write articles, prepare dishes, mix drinks while all the while relaxing at the same time. Now that’s what I call multitasking! Productivity and wellness rolled into one. Below are the movies I’ve recently watched and my emotional take on them.
TEETH
Vagina Dentata…is this for real? Remind me not to watch it again with Peter. It totally made him lose his libido that day. Well, who wouldn’t? Do you know of anyone who gets aroused by watching chopped privates? Not me. And defnitely not Peter. I liked the part though when the girl finally reached the big O. That was really stimulating. Teehee.
THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA & THE SHOPAHOLIC SERIES
These were the first two movies watched right after I submitted my withdrawal to Publicis’ training. I’ve read both books as well (Devil Wears Prada and Shopaholic Series) and for some reason, they make me feel better and relaxed. I guess the fact that both leading characters got what they want in the end makes me feel good about myself and the decisions I am making in my life albeit unconventional for many.
THE DAVINCI CODE
I know I’ve watched this several years ago. But for some reason, I have no recollection whatsoever of how the movie was like. And since I was rereading the book (the illustrated version this time around), I wanted to see for myself how they interpreted the movie. It had a different ending from the book (much like how they did Angels & Demons) which I liked. And as usual, the movie got me hooked to the Holy Grail quest to the point that it got me to read Holy Blood Holy Grail. I’m still on the first chapter. I’ll review it on my bookworm blog once I’m done.
ANGUS, THONGS AND PERFECT SNOGGING
The first scene of this funny and heartwarming teen British flick immediately reminded me of a book I started reading before entitled Dancing In My Nuddy Pants by Louise Rennison. Well, I found out that the movie is an interpretation of one of her books and I actually own two copies of its series, the other one entitled On The Bright Side, I Am Now The Girlfriend of a Sex God. I find it so funny! A lot funnier and wittier than most American teen flicks I’ve watched before.
I guess I just found the story very honest and direct to the point. At fourteen, there’s already snogging and flirting and all those other things teens obsess about at that age.
Maybe it’s just me but I truly adore teen flicks in general. I enjoy watching them. Call me shallow or whatever. Maybe it’s just because I never really got to truly enjoy my teen years. I was forbidden to attend my own prom or have a boyfriend, or go to my own graduation ball and my own parties. My teen years were very academic and…tragic so to speak. So, whenever I have the opportunity to live vicariously through teen flicks, I do. Oh, and Aaron Johnson is really such a sex God! I want to marry him in my next life! ^_^
Dakota Blue Richards also starred in the film The Golden Compass, as the lead character Lyra Belacqua. Here, she also got the lead role, Maria Merryweather. In the movie, her father dies and leaves her an orphan. She was invited to stay at her uncle’s castle at the very mysterious Moonacre Manor and there, she discovers a lot about their family’s history with a lot of magic thrown in. Apparently, she is the last moon princess and must rescue their moonlit world from the pride that caused the ancient feud between their family and the De Noir family before the 5000th moon rises and Moonacre disappears into the sea forever.
It’s an okay movie for me. Dakota played the role very nicely. I just hope she doesn’t get typecast into magical book characters and gets to explore other roles as well.
PASSENGERS
This movie starred by Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson has a bizarre interpretation of life after death. It was interesting though. It got my mind wondering as to where do really souls go after people die. Hmmmm.
LEGALLY BLONDES

I’ve watched both parts 1 & 2 of Legally Blonde before and just for that, I bought this DVD hoping that it would be as funny and brainless to watch as the first two. It turns out, this one is produced by Reese Witherspoon and it stars two young British blond girls, Camilla Rosso and Rebecca Rosso, the most perfect blonde twins I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t tell them apart! They look soooo similar compared to other twins (like the Olsen twins for instance). I love British films! So anyhoo, Peter and I watched it. I dunno about Peter but I enjoyed it. The plot was a bit of a cliche with the usual formula of teen flicks but who cares? The girls were beautiful and fun to watch. I used to wish I was blond. But hey, brunettes do have wild fun too. Hehehe.
PUSH
“Dakota Fanning is really growing up so fast” was the first thought that came to mind. It’s a movie about people possessing powers they inherited from their parents. For me, it’s like Heroes and Smallville but in a less grander scale. There was action, a bit of romance, a bit of drama. It was okay for me.
SUPER TYPHOON
I didn’t understand a single thing because the movie is in Chinese and the subtitles are so way off. But I did enjoy the special effects and computer graphics. It’s like Storm and The Day After Tomorrow rolled into one. Just for that, I think I’m gonna watch it again. I like cataclysmic/catastrophic movies! I just hope they don’t happen in real life.
LAND OF WOMEN
Oh God, this one really brought me to tears. I should remember the scenes when I
need to shed a tear or two in my acting workshops. This movie is not for the depressive types. It might just get you more down.
CORALINE
I’ve read the book before and I was curious to find out how they interpreted it in the movie. The animation was superb and the plot was just as it was in the book. Two thumbs up for this one!
Kristine! Hehehe. If you’re okay with seeing chopped penises then watch it with your gfs instead. That way, it will seem funny rather than scary.
