Note: “Honeymoon” is a term I use whenever my husband and I vacation in an exotic destination. We are not newly weds. In fact, we’ve been married for almost 7 years now and counting. This is our 6th year as Club Panoly members, our 9th visit so far and we make it a point to visit once or twice every year. We consider Boracay our second home.

The Other Side of Bora
I’m not sure if a lot of you know this… At the other side of the island of Boracay is Bulabog beach where kite surfers and windsurfers, well… kite and windsurf. ^_^ I first discovered this place when I marshalled the 2oth Neil Pryde Fun Board Cup last January 2008. Before, I never thought there was a place that looked like… this.

Bulabog beach is the windy part of Boracay. Even the beachscape looks different. As such, the beach is not that tidy, there are a lot of corals and seaweeds and for the unfortunate ones, sea urchins lurk underwater, just waiting to stepped on by carefree windsurfers & kiters (ouch!)
Up, Up and Away… or Not.
So anyway, we all headed to the Freestyle Academy Kitesurf Center where Devlin works. He was already out at sea by the time we got there so we hung out by the beach for a while.

It wasn’t long before he saw us and made sure that each one of us got to do the Kite Intro. Yipee!!!
This is your introduction to kitesurfing and a fun way to learn about flying power kites. It is a lesson for everyone. This two hour lesson gives you a great feel for flying kites and it will let you feel the incredible power these kites can produce. You will learn all about the wind window and the basics of kite control, which is an important skill for kitesurfing. “
It may look like we’re not doing anything but in actuality, we were holding on to Devlin’s suit for dear life. The kite was so powerful that both Ces & I screamed. My top went off and I thought we were going to fly off! For the adventure and thrill seekers, this is the kind of sport for you!
Devlin brought us here for lunch. He said that a long time ago, when Boracay was still not as popular among tourists, there used to be more food places like Happy Home.

It’s a simple dining area with a nipa shed, table & chairs. They have limited dishes on their menu but the chef cooks so deliciously! We got the spicy chicken meal, chicken cordon bleu and tuna pasta. They were so yummy!!! Most dishes are priced at Php120-Php160 range and it’s all worth it.

After lunch, we headed back to Pearl of the Pacific, lounged by the beach and frolicked in the water. Cecille and I spent a lot of time under the sun, talking about life and contemplating about our future. Too bad Jana didn’t join us. She had some work to finish before her boyfriend Ronald arrived later that day.
Went “Parawing”
I was glad we were able to convince Jana to sail with us just before sunset. We bought some shakes from Jonah’s first as well as 10 sticks of isaw (thanks to my mean craving) which we all brought with us on the boat. I wasn’t feeling as relaxed as I hoped I would be. It must be because Peter brought the Nikon D40 instead of the Olympus and I was afraid he or the camera might fall into the water.
Furthermore, the wind was really very strong late that afternoon. The sail was going so fast and it was sometimes “bumpy” that I had to hold on for my dear life. I guess I am getting old for these kinds of things. So guess what I did? When the sail was heading towards the direction of Shangri La, I asked the boatman if he could unload me by the beach of Panoly instead.

I didn’t want to go back to Station 3 anymore now that the sun was setting and the wind was getting stronger. Peter went with me of course and was thankful that he could finally take better photos of the sunset. Suffice it to say that on our last night in Bora, we caught the most perfect, almost cloudless sunset. ^_^
Food Tripping
For dinner, we went to Gasthof and ordered their specialty, baby back ribs, for Php780, spicy pork chops & potatoes for around Php300. The others ordered different pastas.
From the name itself, Gasthof Boracay Restaurant may seem like an authentic German restaurant. The word ‘gasthof’ is actually a German one for ‘guesthouse.’ However, Gasthof has a menu consisting of continental, Filipino, eclectic and of course, German dishes. Find German delights like sausages and wiener schnitzel, along with other popular cuisines.” - Boracay Restaurants

So there, after spending all their energy destroying a huge sand castle and walking for some time, we hailed a ride and went to Pearl of the Pacific to eat some chips and chocolates while regaling each other with funny stories before we called it a night.
