Note: “Honeymoon” is a term I use whenever my husband and I vacation in an exotic destination. We are not newly weds. In fact, we’ve been married for almost 7 years now and counting. This is our 6th year as Club Panoly members, our 9th visit so far and we make it a point to visit once or twice every year. We consider Boracay our second home.

The Other Side of Bora

I’m not sure if a lot of you know this… At the other side of the island of Boracay is Bulabog beach where kite surfers and windsurfers, well… kite and windsurf. ^_^ I first discovered this place when I marshalled the 2oth Neil Pryde Fun Board Cup last January 2008. Before, I never thought there was a place that looked like… this.

I mean, the place feels like old Boracay when it used to be deserted, with only a few nipa huts around, and with tons of coconut trees lining the beach. It just looks too provincial, laid back and tame as compared to the main beach (except for a couple of new hotels that are starting to occupy beachfront properties). So I guess for some, it’d be like heaven! The colorful kites and windsurf boards you see  flying around would seem like butterflies fluttering  in the wind. ^_^

Bulabog beach is the windy part of Boracay. Even the beachscape looks different. As such, the beach is not that tidy, there are a lot of corals and seaweeds and for the unfortunate ones, sea urchins lurk underwater, just waiting to stepped on by carefree windsurfers & kiters (ouch!)

 

Up, Up and Away… or Not.

So anyway, we all headed to the Freestyle Academy Kitesurf Center where Devlin works. He was already out at sea by the time we got there so we hung out by the beach for a while.

It wasn’t long before he saw us and made sure that each one of us got to do the Kite Intro. Yipee!!!

 

This is your introduction to kitesurfing and a fun way to learn about flying power kites. It is a lesson for everyone. This two hour lesson gives you a great feel for flying kites and it will let you feel the incredible power these kites can produce. You will learn all about the wind window and the basics of kite control, which is an important skill for kitesurfing. “

It may look like we’re not doing anything but in actuality, we were holding on to Devlin’s  suit  for dear life. The kite was so powerful that both Ces & I screamed. My top went off and I thought we were going to fly off! For the adventure and thrill seekers, this is the kind of sport for you!
