Eraserheads Reunion Concert

September 1, 2008

It’s been so long since Peter and I really paid good money to attend a concert. And I’m so glad we didn’t miss this one, despite the fact that both of us were sick with flu, we summoned all our positive energy to make sure that we would be able to get tickets just a few hours before the concert and get there in time to witness this once in a lifetime reunion of the ERASERHEADS.  The best tickets we got were PATRON tickets. VIP and SVIP (Super VIP) were not for sale. To make things a bit more difficult, it turned out that the lay out of the venue was not very well-arranged. We were still so far from the stage and the only things that would help us see the band at all were those huge video screens plastered on the stage and in other strategic corners of the field. I guess that would have to do. I then remembered why I stopped watching huge concerts like this. It can get very hot, uncomfortable and rowdy. But we were there already so we might as well enjoy it.

August 30, 2008… The entire Phlippines was counting down the days for this once in a lifetime reunion of the phenomenal band ERASERHEADS. Or at least, their fans were. Until it boiled down to the night itself, at The Fort Open Field, 10 mintes to the concert. The entire crowd was anxiously waiting to see their idols on stage, who like the Beatles, have undoubtedly reached rock god status  — Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro and its lead vocalist Ely Buendia. The energy in the air was so palpable, you could cut it with a knife! 10, 9, 8, 7, 6…. 1! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!  “MAY ISANG UMAGA…NA TAYO’Y MAGSASAMA….” The crowd exploded. And just as suddenly were hushed  into silence. I felt some started to get teary-eyed (Peter included). And pretty soon, everyone started singing with the band, and people were transported back to their younger years and all the emotions that came along with it.

Despite the fact that I am wearing my 4-inch Mango knee-high boots, it was still very difficult for me to see the stage. So Peter had to do the next best thing which was to carry me on his shoulders. Weee!!!! I got a view of the entire crowd. Woah! It did look like the whole Philippines was there! So many people!!!!

We bumped into our good friend Koryn and the rest of her crew… Yeah!!! Rock on!!!!

“Must capture every moment for blogging purposes…”

L: Bumped into Helga as well… R: Peter was trying to raise his cap for Koryn to lacate us… T’was a crazy crowd!!!

More photo ops!

The concert ended anti-climactically. I’m sure you all heard the news by now… Ely Buendia got rushed to the hospital to get medical attention. After around 15-17 songs, the night ended so tragically.   But it was still worth it I guess. We just expected more out of the expensive tickets we bought. Maybe next time. And to Ely, take care of yoyrself, dude. There’s still more to life than drugs, alcohol and rock & roll. Peace out!

Here are some songs I was able to record… I’ll upload more in youtube soon…

 HEY JAY

Peter and I were so “bitin”. Since we’re already out and it seemed like all the medicines we took were doing their job, we headed to QC to meet up with Michelle and Riki and had some ska and reggae fun instead…. More on this on my next post….
