Travelogue XXXV: Evercrest Golf Resort & Chateau Royale, Tagaytay

July 5, 2008

So there we were last weekend, gracing Vina&Kiko’s Wedding and checking-in at Evercrest Golf Resort. As I mentioned, the last time I was there was back in 2004, I think. I was still new in GSIS and the Admin. Group   sponsored a fantastic Luau Party. Peter even gatecrashed and no one noticed coz everybody thought he was also an employee of GSIS. He was always in the office and was  present in a lot of the affairs that we had. Even until now that I’ve resigned, they still think that Peter used to be an employee too. Hahaha. That’s the charm of  The Mordo.

Anyway, I digress…  Here are some pictures of our first visit to the said resort… those days when I used to be happy with my old job…

 BLAST FROM THE PAST (2004)

Just before the team building activities started, my friend Rey took this shot…

With Ma’am Nini… who has always been super nice to me… She was the one who introduced me to the wonderful world of traveling… She’s also a Club Panoly member.

The room I shared with Ma’am Nini…and Peter too, after he sneaked in for a bit that night…Hehehe.

Peter gatecrashed the luau party in style!!!  Hehehe! No wonder he fit right in!

With my first few acquaintances in GSIS

After the wedding, both Peter and I were already pretty tired from the trip. So at around 11pm, we were fast asleep. The next day, we woke up early to explore the premises a for a while and enjoy the fresh morning air. It was quite foggy and a bit cold. Had I known, I should’ve brought a more appropriate attire for the occasion. We bumped into the newlyweds during breakfast and both of them were simply glowing from their first night as a married couple. Yihee!

Soon afterwards, we met up with our friends Ate Rose and Karen. Together, we visited Evercrest’s sister resort — Chateau Royale

It looked very much the same from the way I remembered it in 2004. Although back then, we were only able to see the facade, the swimming pool at the back and the floating restaurant.

 That’s me last Saturday (2008)

This time, we noticed that there are more structures being built. They have their own medical facility, a posh retirement home for rich Koreans and other foreigners who can afford its steep rates, a huge climbing wall, and  rows of little apartments with very modern  facilities and equipment inside.

We also discovered that Chateau Royale is a lot bigger than we expected. It has its own bridge that crosses the main street outside. At the other side of the road are their older condominiums that actually looked quite antique with age with some units  already quite shabby and torn. Tsk, tsk.

Even the 2nd swimming pool (which we thought was olympic-sized!) they have over there looked a little unclean. No wonder we weren’t surprised that there were very few guests. Actually, aside from the security guards and caretakers, we only saw one other family frolicking in the pool. It practically looked like a ghost town and we were a bit depressed by it. What ever happened to this posh resort? Is it off-season? Is it the economy? Oh dear. Sigh.

Once we satisfied our wanderlust,  with our feet  already aching from walking several kilometers, we called the free shuttle service that would take us back to the other side and take our friends back to Evercrest. As for Peter and I, it was the first time we were left alone since last night. So… we immediately headed to the swimming pool and swam the morning away! Yipee!

Me and The Mordo so tanned from beach hopping that year (2004)

Me and The Mordo now (2008)… We miss beach hopping!!! We’re no longer tanned. Darn..

By the time we went back to our room in Evercrest, it was way past lunch time. We ordered room service, had a hearty lunch of Sinigang na Baboy, Adobong Manok, Watermelon & Rice.At 3pm, Vina, Kiko, Peter & I checked out and had coffee at Gourmet’s Cafe before going to Vina’s house and finally heading home. What a loooooong, tiring but satisfying weekend….

 Late lunch by the balcony…

 Gourmet’s Cafe

Vina and Kiko shared this huge burger.

While Peter and I just had cookies, Latte and Mint Chocolate Shake.
