The Couch Potato Is Back!

March 4, 2008

Shoot ‘Em Up

Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, Monica Belucci

The title perfectly describes this movie! From beginning to end, never ending acrobatics of shooting and fighting kept me from falling asleep. Normally, I don’t  watch guy flicks. But this has riveted me since the opening credits. Who would’ve thought that a guy can kill by shooting pointedly at his opponents coming from different directions while giving birth to a lady, breast feeding the baby and holding an infant in his arms?!  Fascinating!

Bee Movie

Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger

Just like any other cartoon movie from Dream Works, this one has a heart. It’s funny and captivating that I am willing to watch all over again. Maybe because I can relate to the main character, Barry B. Benson who just graduated from college and is now faced with the dilemma of choosing the perefct job. In a way, I did feel like a fresh grad even if I am not anymore. But like him, I am willing to try my luck in things that I am passionate about and for which I know I have a purpose,  just like Barry!

John Rambo 4

Sylvester Stallone

It’s been so long (more than 20 years,  think) since I last saw the original Rambo movies. But I was stunned how fit and younger-looking Stallone here is! To think he’s already like, what, 60+ years old?!  Anyway, the movie is set in Thailand where John Rambo is quite forced to go with  a group of mercenaries to help out the victims of war-torn Burma, and in the process, save a group of Christian aid workers who were so hard-headed in their principles and beliefs, thus, kidnapped by the ruthless local infantry unit. Like the old Rambo flicks, it’s action-packed. Watch it if you like gross action movies like this.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter

Ok, I thought this was one of those weird movies of Johnny Depp for which Tim Burton always gets him to play… Well, in fact it is. But I didn’t know it was a musical too!!!  Yeah, I am that naive about these things. Anyway, I didn’t like it that much. Though I think the actors were great in the portrayal of their respective characters since it’s based on a famous Broadway musical that depicts the infamous story of Benjamin Barker, also known as Sweeney Todd, who establishes a barber shop in London, which turns out to be the basis for an evil partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. It’s about revenge, love and hatred. All rolled into one.

The Seeker, The Dark Is Rising

Drew Tyler Bell, Frances Conroy, James Cosmo

I thought it was going to be like LOTRish type. But it turned out quite different from what I expected. It’s all about a boy’s life that is turned upside down upon learning that he is the last of a group of immortal warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the dark. Creepy. But he was brave enough to conquer all his doubts and fears and in  the end, fight the dark.

I Know who Killed Me

Lindsay Lohan

I watched this to see Lindsay’s sexy body…hehehe… But it was fun too, in a yucky and psychotic kind of way that serial killer movies are supposed to be like. At least, the plot is certainly unique. Who would’ve thought that twins can have that much connection, stigmata-type of connection that is, and from there solve this serial killer mystery? Hmmm…

When It Rains, It Pours

March 3, 2008

I wanna share with you something that overwhelms me yet calms me at the same time. I say ‘overwhelms’ coz there are just too many of them and ‘calms’ because it gives me assurance that God always answers whatever prayers we may have. I won’t be going into so much detail since some of these things are not yet written on stone so to speak. Although I’ve already told my bestfriends and closest friends about it, my whole being still can’t stop screaming “Thank you, God! The Secret does really work!” I have no choice but to share my happiness as of late to the whole world!

Remember when I wrote about a new mantra I am practicing (which is written on my side bar, actually) — “I am a carefree millionaire! All good things are coming to me. Money is easy and comes frequently.”? And remember when I shared my other wishes  like  having our own shop, our own resort, writing my book, being a travel writer, owning luxury and other stuff I never thought I could really have, etc.? Well, they are all here right now and they just keep on coming! All great things just keep on coming to me, even those that are not specifically on my list but are aligned to the things I ordered from the universe! All I have to do is make the right choices and focus… or NOT. Maybe I can just say yes to everything and will my body to do all these wonderful blessings. I still can’t say. It’s just so amazing  that when you’re ready, the universe does really conspire for you to get what you want at the shortest, quickest possible time. You don’t even have to worry about  how you’re going to have it. Just feel good and believe that you have it already even if it’s not yet there. And now, the things I’ve been wanting for so long are here.  So let me just sit down for a while, digest everything and enjoy the moment.   God is great and life is fabulous!

U.K. Dream

March 2, 2008

At this point in time, when almost everything I ever asked for are coming to me at lighting speed (I’m talking about opportunities here and there, stuff I wrote on my side bar that are coming true), the only question I have in my head is if my tiny weenie body will be able to handle all these blessings. Sometimes, just thinking about them overwhelms me so much that I just want to go away from it all for a while and really, as in REALLY rest. Do you ever feel the same way? And when you do, what do you usually do about it?

As for me, it’s just so nice to think about going away for a long period of time… to relax,  unwind and free my head. Maybe I can even bring my family with me. It’s been a long while since we last traveled together.

Ahhh…how about going to U.K.? Check out the countryside during the day and see what the local music & entertainment scenes are like at night… The rest of the time, we can check out the cultural sites, art galleries and fashion boutiques. Oooh, it will be like that movie Euro Trip! How exciting!

Maybe my husband and I can even have another honeymoon and renew our relationship. We’ve been so busy the last several weeks and it would be nice to simply be husband and wife for once.

But I don’t want to get ahead of myself here. Of course I’ll have to check our budget and see if there are affordable accommodations we can get. Apparently, there are lots of them — Cheap Edinburgh Hotels, Cheap London Hotels, Cheap Leeds Hotels, Cheap Birmingham Hotels, Cheap Blackpool Hotels. These hotels are very cozy. They offer excellent facilities, they give good value for your money and are near all the wonderful sites the cities have to offer. I think all these sound good! What do you think?

Never Been More Tired

March 1, 2008

Yeah, I’ve never been more tired …since I retired from my work in the government, that is!

28022008(001) The 2-day Philippine-Japan Manning Cooperative Forum concluded yesterday afternoon. Since I haven’t been getting enough sleep the past three days due to other errands and affairs I needed to take care of, plus the fact that as an usherette I am required to come early at PICC (6am on the 28th and 7am on the 29th), stand up the whole day, walk, assist the delegates and cater to the wishes of  the heads, I got so physically tired and mentally drained that by the time I got to bed, my body (especially my feet) was already throbbing and shivering. It’s not that I haven’t done this before. Heck, this was already my 10th time or so since I graduated from college. And back in school, I also did a number of ushering stints. I guess I was just spreading myself too thin. To think that the reason why I retired supposedly from work was to rest. But really, that hasn’t happened yet. And I’m not about to start either.

28022008(005) Anyway, it was fun meeting different classes of people from the different sectors of the government and private industries of Japan and the Philippines, learning valuable stuff from the speakers I got to hear and mingling with co-ushers and cadet officers. And it’s not so bad being prim and proper once in while. Moreover, I got to know some of the organizers and usherettes and it just got me amazed at such purpose-driven lives they live.

Take for instance my co-usherette, Ms. Famil Balbido. She’s the Manager of the Administration and Corporate Affairs of Dolphin Ship Management, sister company of NYK Fil, one of the biggest shipping companies in the world. She’s with them for ten years now, since the time she graduated from college. This chick is definitely one of the most driven and hardworking of the bunch. Actually, in a way they all are.

The Media Bugs! (L-R) Crystal, Me, Jana, Pia & Inky

I also got to know some of the people from Media Bug Advertsising: (1) Ms. Pia Marquez-Matic is one of the first few people I met during the briefing last Wednesday. According to Pia, she was there to help out in their family’s business. I surmise that she is the daughter (or the niece perhaps) of Mr. Ericson Marquez, Director of Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council (PJMCC). She is one very hardworking and dedicated lady, always ready to give out a helping hand. And like Pam Ayson, in spite of all the stress, distress and lack of sleep organizing such events require, not once did either of them lose their temper. They were in a state of "grace under fire" the whole time, one of the things that truly inspired me do my job even better. I also met  (2) Ms. Crystal Yaptinchay. She was very friendly with me and was always ready to share her fun and exciting stories. This young lady is on vacation actually, from her work in US. Some kind of a vacation, huh? She treated this as an OJT experience and I have this feeling that this young girl will go really far in her chosen career.
