Maria Launch Party

February 7, 2008

Thanks to Pam Ayson, a media advocate I met during the Fun Board Cup, and my new "twin", Jana Estrevillo, a video graphic artist and producer who owns her company, Toinks Innovations, I was super lucky to have been invited to a great launch party of a new clothing line by Isa Alvarez — Maria. Located at Make Love Not War (MLNW) shop at San Antonio Village in Makati, yesteday’s launch featured Isa’s colorful party dresses and stylish travel bags reminiscent of the 60’s, that era when people weren’t afraid to express who they are, that generation of flowers and rainbows coloring the spirits of individuals living the carefree life.

True enough, that’s how Isa is. She makes pretty things and travels to beautiful places. She’s not afraid to release her inner soul through her thoughtful creations and just keeps on exploring to do more  and be more. In the future, she’s considering having an accessories line of her own and other "thingamajigs", as she calls it. When I asked her where the name Maria came from, smilingly she said "It’s actually from my other name Marie. I’m Isadora Marie Avarez. But I think Maria sounds better." And with that, she enthusiastically hopped from guest to guest making sure everyone was having a ball and enjoying their wine.

As for me, I immediately invaded her trestle of accouterment, tried a couple and found one I like! It’s gonna be perfect for my upcoming birthday party! But I’d like it to be in amethyst hue, one of my fave colors. With the little time Jana and I spent there, being busy and all, I was able to get re-acquainted with Kira Ramirez. I knew her through The Man Blog and she used to hang out back at our old QC home. Small world, huh? And I never thought that this perky and pretty little lady is an artist/entrepreneur as well! Check her site too and see all  of her colorful designs and creations.

The last few minutes Jana and I were there, I also got acquainted with young ladies who are advocates/volunteers for the Yabang Pinoy pride campaign — Maricris Sarino and Mica Ferrer. They’re also connected with the Children’s Environmental Awareness and Action Foundation . Such fiery, talented and driven individuals!  We got to talk about  what the campaign is all about and just hearing from them really made me proud  to be Pinoy.  I am planning to join this campaign soon and help them with their upcoming travel book project.

It was such rainbow-colored party that I hate to leave. Charming apparel, free-spirited individuals, inviting feast. I know this is not the end but just the beginning and  I’m sure there’ll be a lot more of these.
