An Early Treat for Yayay

December 10, 2007

I mentioned on my side bar that some relatives and friends will visit us for an early Christmas get-together. It all happened last weekend and we had a blast! Unfortunately,  Vina and Kiko weren’t able to make it due to some family affairs of their own. But I’m happy to say that Yayay (Peter’s grandma) who we haven’t seen for five (5) long years,  Tita Cheryl, Carlo and Krisha (Peter’s beautiful cousin)  were able to come and visit us. They arrived at around 3pm last Saturday. Our helper, Emy,  prepared Grilled Chicken and Chicken Caldereta for our late lunch as we caught up with each other’s lives. It’s been soooooo long, especially for Yayay. We missed her so! She’s one of the few people from Mama’s side of the family who we kept in touch with because we know she’s sincere in her love for Peter. She’s the only one among the elders who believed in our side of the story, which is the truth anyway. But that’s another story. Moving on… we made sure that the house was perfect for our little early Christmas party:

As for the food, Peter prepared two of his bestseller pasta dishes — the one with Italian meat sauce and another with tuna in white sauce. Several bottles of Novelino wine were served and the videoke was blaring with pop songs being sung mostly by Krisha, Tita Cheryl and Peter.

Only Yayay stayed the night. Satiated from all the food, we thought of doing something else for her. Since she likes scary films, we watched 30 nights of Day with her. It was soooo gory! There were scenes in the movie which I couldn’t stand watching. But Yayay enjoyed herself. I caught her smiling and laughing at some bloody scenes, even. How brave of her! Afterwards, we called it a night.

I usually wake up late on Sundays.  But that day, knowing that Yayay really wakes up as early as 5am, I made an effort to nudge Peter out of bed to prepare some nice breakfast for us. It turned out that Yayay woke up at 4:30am but didn’t get up until 5:30 am.  A long nice talk was in order, mostly about the past — before, during and after Mama’s death and all the painful as well as happy memories in between. Sigh.

At 9am, we decided to watch an action flick which Yayay also likes. A DVD copy of Kingdom of Heaven, which I bought a long time ago, was gathering dust on one of our shelves. I’m not much of a fan of epics. I only bought it because it starred Orlando Bloom who is one of my all-time crushes. Hehehe. Good thing that Yayay visited us. Otherwise, it would’ve gathered more dust hidden among my overused DVDs of teen flicks, drama and love stories. I never really knew what a good movie it was! Thank God for Yayay’s visit!

An hour before lunch, I suddenly thought "why don’t we head to Tagaytay, have lunch there and treat Yayay to some shopping?!" I got excited at the thought and hurriedly took a shower. By 1pm, we were already in Tagaytay, enjoying the ambiance of Josephine’s as we waited for our food and checked out Taal  below the cliffs. It was amazing! I  looove this place!

After a bit of window shopping in Olivarez Plaza and not finding anything we really wanted to buy, we headed on to take Yayay home to Meycauayan. It was really great spending the weekend with her. It made both Peter and me feel good to se how much Yayay enjoyed her visit with us. We made a promise to spend time with her more often. In fact, we’re already thinking of going on a road trip sometime soon. Maybe we’ll go to the beach next time. But no matter where we take Yayay next, we’ll be sure to let you know!
