Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been entrepreneurial. I’d sell all sorts of stuff like stationery, my drawings, bookmarks I got from my grandfather who worked for the Department of Education, old clothes, shoes, bags, even pastries and other goods. Too bad I wasn’t able to professionally practice this talent of mine since I ended up taking Psychology in college. But I guess the quote “never say never” can be applied here. See, even now that I have an 8-5 desk job (which I am considering leaving some time soon), I still find time to explore this passion of mine. At times, I’d set up garage sales at home just so I can sell my beautiful stuff, both old and new. There was also a point in my life when I explored making home-made spa products and sold it to friends, officemates and even online. I even enrolled in U.P. to learn how to make soap. It helped that I got published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer and I got a lot of customers from that. How I wish I can bring that back. But with my hectic work and personal schedule, I barely have the time to again explore my entrepreneurial skills.
However, with the advent of the internet, I’m thinking that maybe, I may still have a chance after all. There are so many sites out there that offer information about online shopping or setting up an online shop. Plus, there are no overhead expenses and start up fees are barely at a minimum. It’s perfect, right? I just have to find the right ecommerce software and start from there. Online, I noticed that Shopping carts are used and it’s just like shopping for real, only this time, customers will do so at the comforts of their own home. Isn’t that terrific? I just need to find the perfect Shopping cart software for this type of endeavor. Who knows? I might just make my dream of working from home come true.! Hopefully, this materializes very soon.
Ten years ago, I created this mantra with matching pictures of a beautiful house, a bar, couple seated in a car while traveling into the horizon, dollar bills and of course, our happy pictures of togetherness. I'd always put it up on my wall where I can easily see it every day. I've memorized my mantra to heart and I never fail to recite it in my head especially when I'm feeling stressed. I learned this from Oprah back in college when I used to watch her show all the time. Visualization technique such as this and constant recitation of what you want help you acheive your goals. This is affirmed by the teachings of Andrew Matthews' Being Happy & Making Friends and Chin Ning Chu's Thick Face Black Heart and those other self-help authors which I've read through the years. And it just dawned on me…. look at me now. I have my own house, my own car, my own money, and I do travel a lot (all for pleasure and no business trips at all) compared to many of my average contemporaries (thanks to Popsie, Peter and my current employer, of course). So I guess it really does work. I think now, it's time to add another mantra where I'll be in a job that will not only bring me financial success but emotional fulfillment as well. Hmmm…

For those of you who are also trying to find satisfaction in their lives, perhaps you can join me in this endeavor. Create a mantra (the shorter the better and the sooner it will happen) and recite it 12 times while facing the mirror in the morning and in the evening until you've completely memorized it, such that you can recite it in your head anywhere you go. Take it to heart and visualize yourself being THAT already (whatever that may be). Believe that it is already happening to you. Mind over matter. You attract what you think. Good luck and discover your power within! Cheers!
