Last Weekend’s Update: Fun with Friends & a Stranger

October 6, 2007

Yes, despite my hectic schedule at work, I still have a life, thank you. I just couldn’t blog as often and as immediately as I wanted to coz as you all know, blogging takes time … precious hours that I couldn’t afford lately. Anyway, two Fridays ago, Sept. 28, 2007, Michelle, Peter, Peachie  and I met up at Metrowalk to supposedly celebrate the start of Oktoberfest. Unfortunately, when we got there, we noticed several policemen with rifles, sub-machine guns and other deadly weapons and we thought “What the f–k?!”  Plus there were several Jologs already milling about. Not that I’m not jologs myself sometimes, but those guys were couldn’t-wait-to-go-the-the-mosh-pit-and-bang-each-other’s-heads-off type of Jologs. So in short, we changed plans. We still stayed within the vicinity and decided to have dinner instead. We were looking for Mario’s Kitchen. Unfortunately, it no longer exists and in its place stood Opus Resto Bar. It’s a well-lighted resto at the first half of the night and when 9pm strikes, it dims down its bright lights, turns on the disco ball and turns up the music really loud. We were there from 7pm to 12 mn, I think. The food we ate were still as delicious as the ones served at Mario’s Kitchen before, if not better. And they have huge servings too! Yumyum. Then we found out that it’s still managed by the same people as Mario’s Kitchen, they just repackaged it. Nice.

Anyway, aside from the usual bonding, something happened which I didn’t expect at all…

There’s this Canadian guy who introduced himself to me a month ago. I was at Powerbooks with Peter over at Mega Mall. I was busy looking at some architectural books on sale (which I’ve been so into lately since we’re having our new house renovated), when all of a sudden, there’s this tall, semi-bald, Caucasian guy with blue green eyes who just started talking to me out of nowhere. I wasn’t even sure at first if he was really talking to me, until he bent down and looked at me in the face (I’m a snob like that). Of all the times and places to have a semi-cute stranger talk to me,  it had to be at my geekiest (Hmmm…).

Peachie in the middle looked so pretty in her dress

So anyway, he flirted a bit. I flirted back (At least I thought so. Peter told me afterwards that my body language screamed “run!”) and he got my number at the end of the conversation. Peter was there the whole time watching over me, like he would his little daughter. We’re weird like that. This guy texted me once in a while and asked me out every time. Of course, my schedule was always full and I never believed that he would really want to see me again. Until, this night.

With our friend Michelle

So Peter and I, together with Michelle and Peachie, go into our “SOP” (standarad operating procedure that I am single and I’m just hanging out with my friends). Surprisingly, he did show up. I thought I was prepared coz Peter taught me some flirting moves prior to this. But I guess, I’ll always be me, the girl who doesn’t know how to flirt, who gives mixed signals to guys (hahaha! good luck, boys!) and who is as real as she gets (except for the SOP part in this instance). Basically, Lex (which is not his real name, by the way) and I just talked non-stop the whole night. There was no awkward moment. There weren’t any sparks too. It’s just nice that I wasn’t conscious of myself, my thoughts, my words. I was just being me. We even got to drop him off near his place and the whole time he was riding with us (I asked Peachie to sit in front with Peter while I was at the back squeezed between Michelle and Lex), he was leaning on my shoulder. I know I must be giving him the wrong idea by this time. But not to fret. I have no intention whatsoever of seeing him again. I was just curious of what it would be like to exchange numbers with strangers. Now I know and that’s that. Thanks to Peter I realized that there really is nothing exciting about dating strangers, even cute ones. I’d still prefer to fall in love with a guy best friend, which has always been my pattern since my elementary years anyway. And now, this experience  just made me even more in love with Peter. Poor Lex. Coz truth be told and pardon me for saying this, I think Lex is kinda weird in a crazy sort of way. He’s very sensitive and flighty. And hooking up with strangers like him is scaring the shit out of me. Thank God, I’m married. I wouldn’t wanna get into the trouble of dating psychopaths, if you know what I mean. Yeah, I’m mean like that.

 Getting drunk with Peter’s concoction…

Moving on, we all called it a night and went home. Michelle stayed with us that weekend and spent time enjoying our new bar at home. Vina and Kiko followed the next night and stayed til Sunday afternoon. Riki soon followed and we got busy discussing about wedding plans, feng shui, finance and work.

”Cheers! Let’s see who gets drunk first…

Unfortunately, Peter and Kiko almost finished a whole bottle of Chivas Regal and soon (11pm) passed out.

While us girls stayed up til 5 am!!!

It was refreshing to just stay at home and bond with friends. Come Monday, I felt tired from all the drinking and bonding session but in a good way. I can’t wait for our upcoming Halloween/house warming/graduation/Ire’s bday/Ivy’s baby shower party at the end of October. A 5 in 1 affair! Woohoo!

 Open bar…

Umaga na, uwian na…
