The next series of travelogues that I will be sharing with you consist of three weeks worth of vacation, touring parts of Visayas and Mindanao two summers ago. This was the time when both of us were able to scrimp the P40,000 we saved up for this adventure and learned the art of backpacking by experience. I’ve already posted the first leg of our trip (Cebu). Now, let’s check out Dumaguete. Come, join us on our journey and explore the beauty of our country. Maybe next time, we can do a backpack tour of Asia and Europe as well. *crossing our fingers now*

Waiting to board our Ocean Ferry ride to Dumaguete…
Hi Kai! That’s how I feel too especially these days that I am confined in the four walls of our training room.
I’m glad you’re having fun!
You cant find the light house? Gosh how can the passing ships find it at night then?
Heheheh.
I so missed Dumaguete!!!
Posted by john at May 10, 2007, 8:53 amHahaha! Hey, John! We saw the lighthouse from afar but we can’t seem to find the trail. It’s all shrubs and trees and I was afraid we’d get lost and wouldn’t be able to find our way home. Hehehe! It was late in the afternoon then and mejo pa-sunset na rin, that’s why. Next time! When we go back there, we’ll visit the Apo island naman. Are you from Dumaguete?
jen,
Heheh. I was just being sarcastic. heheh. No I’m not from Dumaguete. But I used to go there a lot when I was working in Cebu. I love the place. Although, everytime I went there the reason was work related. Still I love the night life there. I havent been able to do some nature tripping though.
.
Hey , have you guys been to Surigao?
Posted by john at May 12, 2007, 9:46 amHi!
I found your blog just by searching through Google for Bahia de Bais and I find it fun and informative. We also won a free stay at the same hotel through VCI. I hope you can give me additional info on how to get there possibly the cheapest means and other important suggestions/tips that you can think of, I’d really appreciate it, that is if you have the time for it.
thanks!

Posted by rod at July 20, 2007, 5:16 pmHi Jen,
Nice travel page you have here. Cool layout and entertaining write ups! I came across your page looking for timeshare owners like myself. I love traveling too and I’ve also been to Dumaguete and Bais. Apo Island is one big reason to go back. It’s the best snorkeling site I’ve been to.
I’m actually looking for timeshare owners who are willing to rent some of their points or weeks that they cannot use. For more details pls email me at monay43@gmail.com or text 09224832664.
Thanks!
Judith
hi, just want to know what time of the year did you visit bahia de bais.. also, i’d like to know more or less how much you spent on food as we got the same ‘free’ accomodation care of vci… thanks!
Posted by agm at October 3, 2007, 11:25 pmHi agm! Dumaguete was part of our Visayas-Mindanao trip last April 2005. Bahia de Bais has its own restaurant where we ordered our meals. The dishes were very affordable, around P120 or so (like adobong squid, chopsuey, etc.), good for two people already.

Hi Jenny! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I’m glad the info I have here helped. I’ll email you as soon as I’m done with my errands.
hi. I got invited to this time-sharing talk of VCI also and hey guess what I fished a 2 nights 3 days accommodation at the Bahia de Bais resort as well. I was thinking maybe it’s the only one in that fish bowl. You seemed to enjoy the trip. I was going through Cebu Pacific’s website and if only I had the time to go. Would you recommend I go?
Posted by Oliver at November 23, 2007, 1:27 amLike them i got this VCI invite and I was wondering if the place is good. Luckily, i read your blog so i might consider the place because it sounds like it’s really nice. From the airport, is Bahia de Bais still far? thanks^^
Posted by knolls at November 29, 2007, 1:16 pmHey Oliver! Yeah go!!! From Dumaguete, it’s so easy to go to Cebu, Bohol & Siquijor. It’s only a ferry boat away! Go!
Hi Knolls! I really wouldn’t know. Coz We came from Cebu and Bohol when we went to Dumaguete via Supercat. This was during our Budget VisMin trip thus the boat rides. But I’m pretty sure it’s just near since Dumaguete is so small as compared to Cebu. Baka less than an hour away lang.
Hello, I know this is weird and we dont know each other…im going to Dumaguete din kasi this Feb.So i searched over the net and I found your blog. Itatanung ko lang sana kung how much yung mga fares like trike to the hill (kasi bahia de bais din kami), yung rent ng boat sa dolphin watching and other stuff na tips
salamat!
Hi Ciela! Thanks for visiting my blog.:-)
The tricycle rides are cheap lang like ten pesos or so. But if it’s a special trip at mejo malayo like the trip uphill and downhill, baka abutin kayo between P75-P100.
The Dolphin watching naman is sort of expensive. If you rent your own boat depending on the availability, number of hours and the size, it would range from P1800-P3000. What we did is nakiusap kami with this one big group of people who are renting a boat at that time. So we only paid P800 for the entire trip. We got to visit a mangrove forest pa and eat fresh squid.
I hope this helps! And enjoy your trip to Dumaguete!
Cool trip! I also got a free accomodation to Bahia de Bais from VCI.
~Hope you could give me a rough estimate of the cost in going there or budget perhaps. I’ll be tagging few friends to a place remote and they want to know first how much they should shell out.
~Where could we buy the Ocean ferry ticket? Why did you buy only one way not roundtrip ticket?
~I’ll be traveling from Manila btw. Which route should we take? Manila-Cebu-Dumaguete right? or is there other route? How long is the trip from Cebu-Dumaguete? or is there a schedule when the boat is available or not? just to be sure we don’t miss our flight.
I’m really interested in going there after seeing your photos

Please keep in touch.
Posted by Dette at February 8, 2008, 7:50 pmHi Dette! Thanks for visiting!
Wow, you’re in for a ice adventure!
In terms of costing, when we went there kasi, it was part of our Visayas-Mindanao tour itinerary (Manila-Cebu-Dumaguete-Bohol-Surigao-Camiguin-Bukidnon-Cagayan de Oro-Manila) So bale, Boat lang kami from Cebu to Dumaguete. Kaya one way lang. Kasi from Dumaguete, Nag-Bohol na kami.
Yung Ocean Ferry ticket, you can buy that any time sa pier ng Dumaguete near Rizal Ave.
If you’re coming from Manila, check www.cebupacificair.com for cheap plane rates and schedules. I know they already have Manila to Dumaguete route. Nag-iiba-iba kasi yan, both the schedule and the fare. I believe this coming March, they will have another piso fare promo. Better wait for that.
I hope this helps and may you have an awesome vacation in Dumaguete.
hi, just want to know what’s the best time of the year to visit bahia de bais, is the month of may ok.. also, i’d like to know more or less how much you spent on food as we got the same ‘free’ accomodation care of vci… thanks!
Posted by mylen at March 19, 2008, 11:43 amHi Mylen!
Each dish is on the P120-200 price range but good for 2 already.
As for the month, March and April are the best months coz they’re the hottest. Come May, it’ll be a bit rainy already.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your vacation!
Posted by sexynomad at March 19, 2008, 8:35 pmDo you still have the ciontact detals of Bahia. Thanks!
Posted by Eunice at March 25, 2008, 5:36 pmHi Eunice! This is the number I kept all these years… 0354028850. Try calling them.
Hi there! Like many of those who’ve reached here, I got here by googling “Bahia de Bais” and found your blog. We also “won” the VCI thing and the info in the article and comments were very helpful. Thanks.
Still deciding if we can go though.
Posted by Etz at May 30, 2008, 11:13 pmHi Etz.. Hope yu can go. It’s really a nice, quiet, relaxing place. I would if I have the time.
Hi there.!! like others i found your blog while lokking for bahia de bais. i also won the free trip from vci. i just want to know is it advisable to go there on July-August. and how much must i prepare for the trip.
Thanks!!
hope that you can help me…..
Hi Mj! Bahia de Bais is located on top of a hill overlooking the Bais Bay. So whether it’s rainy or summer season, you would still appreciate the relaxing ambience of the place. However, since July-August is the rainy season, you might have difficulty doing some of the activities that Bais Bay is known for like visiting the mangrove forest and dolphin watching. So it’s really up to you. It depends on your likes and interests.
Hi, ur blog is really helpful. We will be going to bohol first then thru Supercat or ferry we will proceed to Dumaguete. Ask ko lang kung ano ung mode of transpo from dumaguete to bahia and how much ung fare? Or would you know if Bahia offers a transpo pick-up from dumaguete pier? Thanks again. And good luck to your upcoming trips.
Posted by oday at September 29, 2008, 10:34 pmHi Oday! Thanks for thinking so. It’s my pleasure.
When we went to Dumaguete before, I remember hailing a tricycle all the way to Bahia de Bais. It only cost us Php150 but considering that was year 2005 and how much the price of oil/gas has increased over the years, just prepare extra cash for that. I also don’t think Bahia has service transfers. But if they do, it will surely be more expensive, maybe at least around Php1000. Hope this info helps. Take care and enjoy your vacation!
HI there, juz wnt to ask, magkano ung travel frm dumaguete to tagbilaran? any cheap pension houses in Tagbilaran? magkano naman po?tnx………hope ul answer my queries…
Posted by tani at November 2, 2008, 12:54 pmwe were also given 3 D 2 N accommodations in bais…what other fees will be paid..?we plan to go there b4 xmas..maybe there are others who want to split the boat ride for whale watching
Posted by nelia sierra at November 2, 2008, 2:22 pmhey tani, yung superferry fast craft around 180-220 pesos lang. for cheap pension houses, i’m sure meron altho di ko pa na-try. you can just google the words cheap hostel, cheap hotesl, cheap pension houses tas marami na lalabas na pwede mo pagpilian.
Hi Nelia! Congrats! I’m sure you’ll enjoy your stay there. As or other fees, we didn’t pay for anything anymore at the hotel. The room is already free. You’ll only have to shell out money for your transpo and food of course. And if there will be many visitors at that time, then you can arrange to share a boat for whale watching. During the time of our visit kasi, we were the only ones there. So we really had to try our luck in finding people to share a boat with at the pier. Have fun! Take care!
Posted by Sexy Nomad at November 3, 2008, 2:17 pmReading your blog really helps. we thought it was a scam when we won the VCI promo to bahia. I think all the choices in the fish bowl is bahia and no other destinations. But looking at your pics, showed me how beautiful the phils is!
Posted by sarah at March 19, 2009, 9:48 amHi Sarah! I’m glad my blog post about Dumaguete helped. Yeah, I think all destinations in that fish bowl are for Bahia too! Hehehe.
Have fun on your vacation!
im going to bais tomorrow yipee! how much is the dolphin watching?
Posted by Marco at July 1, 2009, 12:37 pmHi Marco! Did you get my Plurk message? Hope you were able to join a group. It’s cheaper that way, around P800 or less. But if you go alone, it may cost you around P2000-P3000. Have fun!!!
Hi! I would like to visit bahia de bais, but i do not have any contact numbers, can you help me so I can make reservations? Thanks
Posted by Leanne Marie at September 29, 2009, 2:14 pmHi Leanne,
I no longer have my contact info for Bahia de Bais. We just won an accommodation there thru VCI. They have a lot of affiliate sites and I’m sure you can book thru any of them.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be of much help.
Enjoy your vacation!
